How to Change Your Tinder Name (Without Deleting Your Account)?

You signed up for Tinder to meet new people, and assuming you followed the instructions in my Tinder Guide, you are now going on dates.

But it’s possible that you’re worried about Tinder selling the information it collects, or you wish to conceal your details. You may or may not have discovered that you cannot modify your age or your name on the Tinder app.

This post will provide you with two simple strategies that are quick and straightforward to use to alter your name on Tinder.

So let’s get started.

What is Tinder’s policy about changing names?

If you want to change your username on Tinder, you’re out of luck. There is no option to edit your profile name on the app itself. Instead, you must create a new account. A lot of people don’t realize that there are multiple accounts associated with one single email address. So if you want to change your name, you’ll have to start over. And that’s not just inconvenient; it’s potentially dangerous too.

You might think that changing your name on Tinder wouldn’t affect anything else about your dating life. But it does. Once you’ve changed your name, you won’t be able to use the same email address to sign in to both your old and new accounts. So if you try to log into your original account, you won’t be allowed to.

This could mean losing everything, including your matches, messages, and Likes. Even if you keep your previous activity intact, you still won’t be able to access those things. Because Tinder says that “if you attempt to log in with your existing username, we will deactivate your account.”

The only way around this is to start over completely. You’ll have to go through the process of deleting your old account, setting up a new one, and re-uploading every photo and video you had on your old profile.

But wait, what if you already have many photos and videos saved? Well, you’re stuck again. Tinder says that “you cannot upload duplicates of files that already exist on your phone,” so you’ll have to find another way to save all your stuff.

And if you’re worried about losing your contacts, you shouldn’t be. As long as you haven’t deleted your old account, you won’t lose any contact information. However, if you delete your old account, you will lose all of your current matches, messages, Likes, etc., along with any data you uploaded to the site.

So why would anyone ever want to change their name on Tinder? Well, maybe you want to distance yourself from some embarrassing pictures that you posted online. Or perhaps you want to ensure that your real identity isn’t linked to your dating profile. Whatever the reason, it’s important to know that doing so can cause serious problems.

List of 2 methods to change your profile name on Tinder

Because of strict privacy regulations, once a Tinder member registers an online profile, they cannot change their username anytime. Why? to prevent fake profiles from registering.

It seems only that you should be able to choose what name appears on your current Tinder profile, even though the C-level executives at Match Group don’t want you to have that option. You may have a close relative who uses Tinder roughly and doesn’t want them to find out that you use it.

Alternatively, you create a sham account to conduct a split test on your profile. Here are two different approaches to changing your name on Tinder; however, remember that either approach will require you to use your Facebook account.

1. Changing Facebook profile name

If you want to change your name on Facebook, there are several ways to do it. One way is to use the Facebook app itself.

Facebook app method;

  • Just tap on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen and select “Account Settings.”
  • Then scroll down to the bottom of the settings menu and select “Your Name.”
  • There you’ll find sub-menu options like “Change my full name,” “Set my legal name,” and “Add middle initial.”
  • Select one of those options and follow the instructions on the next screen.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of that page and select “How do I update my profile?” Once you’ve done that, you’ll see a section called “Update Profile Information.”
  • In that section, you’ll find options like name, gender, relationship status, hometown, birthday, and email address. Click on the dropdown arrow beside each field and select what you want to change.
  • Finally, if none of the above methods work for you, you can always try contacting customer support directly. From there, you’ll be able to submit a ticket with the help desk team.

2. Create your new Tinder profile by deleting the old account.

If you are tired of having the same name on both apps, it is possible to change the name without changing your profile. This method works because the name change takes place on Facebook. So if you go to Facebook and make a new account under a fake name, you’ll see the name and age on Tinder.

So, let’s say you’ve already set up a Facebook account under your real name. Then, you’d log into your Facebook account and create a new one. Once you’re done creating the account, you’ll notice that you now have two accounts, one under each name. You can use whichever one you like.

Now, let’s move on to Tinder. Open up the app and tap on your profile picture. Next, tap on the three dots somewhere near the profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Now, select “Edit Profile.” Here, you’ll see that you can edit your name. Input whatever name you’d like and hit save.

And that’s pretty much it. You’ll see that Tinder has updated your name and photo. Now, whenever someone searches for your name, they’ll be able to see your new profile. And you can switch between profiles whenever you’d like.
